Building with Bamboo

Do you ever wish you had something for your guests to sit on other than that cushioned purple mat on your floor? There’s good news! Next time you’re on Jl. Manek Roo stop in and visit bamboo designer and craftsman, Pak Yusup at Atakana.

Whether it’s a dining room set, a bed, or simply a set of chairs for your front porch – you name it and Yusup will try to make it. Having learned this craft from his father, creating bamboo furniture is a real passion for Yusup. In fact, it’s difficult for Yusup to say what he enjoys designing and building most; instead, he declares, “I like it all!”

If you’re interested in browsing the bamboo options, Yusup’s shop doesn’t have a display room, but he does have albums filled with photographs of furniture designs. According to Yusup, once a customer commissions a piece the process of designing and building takes about a week. And Yusup stressed that his furniture is very reasonably priced—-murah sekali.

For 21 years Yusup has been running his own furniture business, both in Banda Aceh and Meulaboh. He would be very happy to add you to his long list of satisfied customers.
